Capital Projects Engineering Technician (Engineering Technician IV)

Hourly Salary Range: $23.42 - $27.29

SCOPE OF WORK: Provides administrative and technical assistance in the management and coordination of capital and maintenance building projects at the Community College System and its divisions. This position shall report to the Director of Capital Planning and Development.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Manages and coordinates the administrative functions associated with capital projects contracts, designs, or other activities including the tracking and submittal of plans and specifications; creating and maintaining a filing system for Requests for Information (RFI), architectural sketches, contracts and contract changes, schedules, budgets, test reports, asbuilt drawings, and warranty items.
  • Conducts site visits to review and report on project status and receive and deliver information from and to Director of Capital Planning, Contractors, and College administration.
  • Coordinates work flow of project designs between consultants, and college administration and faculty.
  • Assists in the inspections of contractual work performed by consultants, general and subcontractors to ensure that projects and site work are completed according to prescribed plans, specifications and local codes, as assigned.
  • Conducts project inspections to report on compliance activity regarding governmental regulations, design standards, schedule and conformance to the contract documents.
  • Coordinates reports on status of actions regarding project quality and conformance of project requirements.
  • Attends meetings between consultants, college representatives, contractors, and city/town building officials to aid administratively in resolving issues with plans, specifications and field issues.
  • Tracks program guidelines during project development.
  • Maintains responsibility for project documents after date of final acceptance and ensures complaints are followed up by the contractor.
  • Assists in the preparation of budgets for capital and maintenance projects.
  • Complies with all system, college, state and federal rules and regulations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Associates Degree from a recognized college or university with a major study in civil, construction or transportation engineering, architecture, or a related field. Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience.

Experience: Five (5) years’ technical experience in the field of engineering, architecture, building construction, as a clerk of the works or a related field. Each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.

License/Certification: Possession of a valid driver's license and/or access to transportation for statewide travel. Possession of OSHA 10 hour certification or ability to obtain certification upon hire.

RECOMMENDED WORK TRAITS: Extensive knowledge of engineering techniques at a pre-professional level, requiring possession of sufficient knowledge in trigonometry and algebra in order to perform complicated mathematical computations. Extensive knowledge of environmental issues and regulations, material testing and designing of highways. Skill in the use of surveying, drafting and computing instruments and testing equipment. Ability to make complex drawings and tracings and technical mathematical computations. Ability to perform difficult laboratory tests, assume inspectional responsibilities in the field, train and supervise subordinate personnel and maintain accurate records. Must be willing to maintain appearance appropriate to assigned duties and responsibilities as determined by the college appointing authority.
