Dental Clinical Academic Programs Manager

SCOPE OF WORK: Provides supervision of students and faculty of the Dental Hygiene and Dental Assisting Programs in accordance with the NH Dental Practice Act and Administrative Rules, including providing diagnostic, consultative, and referral services for the Allied Dental Education Programs and assisting in departmental and/or NHTI activities that support the mission of the college. This position reports to the Academic Department Chair of Allied Dental.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Provides consultation and/or evaluation of patient problems/conditions that deviate from normal.
  • Maintains patient records and monitors student progress and accomplishments and assists students with their learning needs.
  • Administers and/or directs emergency medical and dental care.
  • Provides direct supervision for administration of local anesthesia and/or nitrous oxide by dental hygiene and dental assisting faculty and students.
  • Assists/consults with the faculty and student on various clinic assessments.
  • Provides prescriptions for medications as indicated for dental hygiene care.
  • Authorizes radiographs as indicated for comprehensive dental hygiene care.
  • Reviews radiographs, charts notes, and signs electronic records as indicated, and makes referrals, as needed.
  • Authorize dental sealants for clinic patients.
  • Provides proper documentation of dental care and referrals made.
  • Assists with equipment maintenance as needed.
  • Adheres to program policy, protocol and procedures as outlined in college and program manuals.
  • Observes all academic policies and procedures and institutional rules and regulations.
  • Remains current within the specialized field of instruction through participation in relevant professional associations and educational & training activities. Utilizes appropriate instructional and administrative technologies as required for teaching effectiveness and college operations/communication.
  • Demonstrates ethical and professional behavior.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Possession of a Doctor or Dental Surgery D.D.S. or Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry D.M.D. degree from an accredited college or university by Commission on Dental Accreditation.

Experience: Five years professional experience clinical experience at a dental practice.

License/Certification: Valid license to practice dentistry in the State of New Hampshire. Current CPR certification, infection control and bloodborne pathogen standards theory and practice, as well as relevant health clearance requirements

DESIRED WORK TRAITS: Demonstrated knowledge of clinical and educational program requirements in accordance of CODA accreditation standards for Allied Dental Education programs. Ability to uphold dental hygiene practice standards and adhere to clinic protocols and academic policies to provide an effective learning environment and to minimize treatment-related issues and prevent emergencies. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with the ADED faculty, who design and implement clinical and course curricula. Proficiency in diagnosing and providing appropriate dental treatment. Ability to interact effectively and professionally with individuals from diverse cultural, socioeconomic, education, racial, ethnic, and professional backgrounds. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated ability to work with and secure the cooperation of others and demonstrated ability to supervise and direct the work of learners. Knowledge of basic teaching methods and materials. Ability to maintain comprehensive and accurate records of the progress and development of the individual student. Demonstrate a positive/proactive approach to customer service. Understanding of and appreciation for clinical and educational program requirements established in accordance with accreditation standards for Allied Dental Education programs. Commitment to ensuring the highest quality of patient care. Must be willing to maintain an appearance appropriate to assigned duties and responsibilities as determined by the college.
