Student Support Counselor I (PT - 25 HRS)

SCOPE OF WORK: This is a professional counseling role to provide student support with a focus on wellness and mental/behavioral health. Provides assessment, support, and community engagement for students through a wellness model. Ensures timely response to student concerns, consistent case management, and compliance with institutional policies and applicable regulations. This position reports to the Vice President of Student Success at NHTI - Concord’s Community College.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Supports the Lynx Care Center providing early intervention and coordination of care, advocacy, resources and encouragement for students.
  • Receives and assesses reports of students of concern and determine appropriate referrals and interventions.
  • Provides non-clinical case management, including monitoring, follow-up, and coordination of services.
  • Connect students with campus and community resources, including academic, counseling, and basic needs supports.
  • Assists with development and implementation of outreach, prevention, and student support initiatives.
  • Establishes relationships and liaises with outside agencies to provide appropriate student referrals and student development education training programs.
  • Works in collaboration with the Vice President of Student Success and Campus Safety to develop, implement and provide crisis intervention and emergency coverage protocols as appropriate.
  • Ensures compliance with Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), Title IX, Clery Act, and institutional policies; maintains confidentiality; and exercises sound professional judgment in handling sensitive information.
  • Provides appropriate student development evaluation and assessment techniques, conducts systematic qualitative and quantitative evaluations of all areas of responsibility.
  • Participates in various NHTI activities, including orientations, open houses, academic ceremonies, and campus committees.
  • Embraces and adheres to the Mission and Vision of the college.
  • Complies with all college, system, state and federal rules and regulations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned within the scope of the role.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION: Master’s degree in mental health related field (counseling, social work, or psychology) OR Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with major study in Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, Human Services, or a related field AND

EXPERIENCE: Two (2) years of experience as a social worker or mental health counselor including experience with social and psychological issues, crisis intervention, substance abuse, and/or group counseling.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: New Hampshire driver’s license or access to statewide transportation.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Counseling experience in a college setting. Current New Hampshire licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor, Clinical Social Worker, or School Social Worker.

RECOMMENDED WORK TRAITS: Considerable knowledge of counseling principles and techniques. Considerable knowledge of learning, behavior, and emotional patterns of both traditional and new traditional college students. Ability to maintain rapport with students, faculty and staff. Ability to communicate effectively and to prepare written reports. Ability to instruct students, faculty and staff concerning counseling roles and techniques, leadership roles, and human relations. Competency in presentation skills, group process and conflict management training. Ability to exercise professional judgment and to handle sensitive and confidential matters appropriately and professionally. Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.
