SCOPE OF WORK: Performs skilled maintenance work in the repair of structures, equipment, and fixtures in mechanical, assists with renovation and construction work and facilities projects. This position reports to the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor II at MCC.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Investigates problems with building maintenance equipment. Determines fault and causation and evaluates possible solutions, proceeds with corrective measures in the repair, replacement, or restoration of the equipment.
- Fabricates and repairs steel parts including the design and layout. Utilizes brakes, shears presses, and benders. Able to weld in various positions using the SMAW, GMAW, and FCAW processes. Familiar with the operation of oxygen acetylene and plasma cutting torches.
- Performs major in-house mechanical repairs to pumps, engine driven equipment, various hydraulic and pneumatic systems, performs pin, bushing and bearing replacement on industrial sub-assemblies including shaft and pulley alignments.
- Locates, traces, identifies, and understands the purpose and functionality of various lines, circuits and devices used in the production, delivery and control of the facilities heating, cooling, plumbing, electrical distribution, security, fire protection and life safety systems.
- Operates a variety of complex heavy equipment as needed, including, front end loader, backhoe loader, and boom lift in order to complete snow removal, landscape and other construction projects.
- Performs various building maintenance involving carpentry, masonry, and painting.
- Assists Facilities Maintenance Supervisor with construction projects as requested.
- Performs minor landscaping duties including mowing, trimming, and planting; assists with snow plowing, shoveling, and salting/sanding of parking lots, driveways, walkways, and entryways; monitors condition of plow and mowing equipment and assists in repair as necessary.
- Assists in rearranging offices, classrooms, and laboratories as requested.
- Serves as a back-up in monitoring the alarm systems and responding to alarm calls, as needed.
- Operates college vehicles/trucks according to work assignment.
- Observes sound safety practices and reports safety concerns to the management.
- Attends workshops, seminars, and conferences for professional development.
- Complies with all system, college, state and federal rules and regulations.
- Other duties as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: High school diploma or high school equivalency.
Experience: One years’ experience in general building maintenance and repair work and/or work in a skilled trade. Each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of education.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Some training in a building trade desired. Must be willing to work a flexible work schedule and/or to change hours during any special or emergency event, to support college activities that exceed normal operating hours, and to adjust work schedule to meet college requirements. This position is designated as Essential Personnel and is subject to all its provisions.
License/Certification: Valid driver's license is required to operate a vehicle to perform job accountabilities.
RECOMMENDED WORK TRAITS: Knowledge of one or more of the building trades. Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions. Knowledge of the methods and tools used in maintenance and repair work. Skill in the use of tools and equipment used in the work. Ability to direct the work of subordinate maintenance staff. Ability to understand and carry out instructions. Ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with immediate associates and the general public. Must be willing to maintain an appearance appropriate to assigned duties and responsibilities as determined by the agency appointing authority. Ability to perform physical demands required for this position.
