SAFETY & SECURITY OFFICER
PART-TIME, $18.37-21.03/HOUR
SCOPE OF WORK: Monitors and secures buildings and grounds, assisting students and visitors, maintains activity logs, and assists with various safety and security functions. This position reports directly to the Safety and Security Supervisor at White Mountains Community College and also works under the day-to-day guidance of the Director of the Littleton Academic Center..
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Patrols campus buildings and grounds to provide for the safety of the college community and property. Inspects buildings, grounds, and parking lots for fire, theft, damage, and other safety hazards.
- Ensures orderly behavior among campus community and visitors.
- Enforces State law pertaining to all individuals on college property and enforces college rules and regulations pertaining to students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
- Enforces college policies and procedures governing safety and security and the protection of college property.
- Serves students, faculty, staff, and visitors by providing for their safety and ensuring their awareness of their rights and responsibilities.
- Documents incidents involving the safety and security of the college community and WMCC property, and reports incidents to the Safety and Security Supervisor.
- Prepares written reports such as daily logs and incident reports relating to security and safety matters.
- Cooperates with law enforcement agencies during incidents of criminal violation or emergent nature on campus.
- Assists the Safety and Security Supervisor in providing safety training for students, faculty, and staff.
- Conducts investigations concerning college policy violations and/or violations of State laws.
- Collaborates with Safety and Security Supervisor on the preparation of the Annual Security Report.
- Complies with all college, system, state and federal rules and regulations.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: High school diploma or high school equivalency. Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of experience.
Experience: One year of experience in law enforcement work as a security guard/officer, police officer, corrections officer, or military police officer.
License/Certification: Valid driver's license required.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be at least 21 years of age.
RECOMMENDED WORK TRAITS: Knowledge of law enforcement work and arrest procedures. Skill in dealing with offenders of the rules and regulations established for the control of pilfering and damage to college-owned property. Ability to enforce laws in accordance with standard procedure to control pilfering and damage to college property. Ability to understand and follow instructions. Ability to work with people and secure their cooperation without the use of violence. Ability to perform investigations, question witnesses and prepare written reports. Ability to use judgment when using force to control individuals or groups. Ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with employees, residents, other law enforcement agencies and the general public. Must be willing to maintain appearance appropriate to assigned duties and responsibilities as determined by the college appointing authority.
