This is a part-time, 25 hour per week position with a starting wage of $18.36 - $20.34 per hour.
SCOPE OF WORK: Performs skilled work in the routing, general, and preventative custodial, grounds, and/or building maintenance and assists in coordinating the work activities of staff engaged in performing similar duties. This position reports to the College Facilities Director at MCC.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Performs daily cleaning and sanitizing of offices, classrooms, labs, hallways, lavatories for all buildings, including vacuuming, emptying of trash containers, recycling, dusting, cleaning of glass, washing floors, stripping, waxing and buffing floors, cleaning of carpets and performing other custodial duties as required.
- Operates and maintains building service equipment including hand tools, power tools, lawn mowers, snow removal equipment, etc.
- Performs routine building maintenance such as replacing light bulbs, making minor repairs to building, electrical, plumbing, and other equipment as needed.
- Performs general repairs, painting, completing work requests and other custodial duties as required.
- Understands proper use of chemicals such as disinfectants, sanitizers and cleaning compounds and to differentiate in their use in cleaning toilets as opposed to food preparation and handling areas where improper cleaning methods will contaminate food prep surfaces and equipment.
- Uses large amounts of costly chemicals as part of the floor maintenance and the cleaning program. Operates all types of automatic floor scrubbing machines and high-speed floor buffing machines as part of a floor maintenance program.
- Assists in general grounds maintenance as needed to include plowing and shoveling snow, sweeping at doorways, clearing of snow/ice and salting of areas as assigned, mowing lawns, as well as ensuring outside premises are maintained in a clean and orderly condition.
- Ensures that all equipment used meets safe operating guidelines.
- Operates college vehicles/trucks according to work assignment.
- Moves furniture and equipment, delivers supplies and runs errands as assigned.
- Assists in overseeing the safety and security of all buildings, grounds and equipment. as well as of the students, faculty, staff, reporting safety issues and concerns as observed throughout the campus to supervisor and Campus Safety Office.
- Provides security for building in absence of Campus Safety Officer. Provides night watchman duties in the absence of security and ensures building is secured and alarmed at end of shift.
- Moves furniture and equipment, delivers supplies and completes errands, as assigned.
- Participates in building and room set-up to accommodate functions and activities of students and guests.
- Follows safety guidelines for all work performed and reports safety concerns to management on a timely basis.
- Serves on campus or system committees and teams as assigned.
- Attends workshops, seminars, and conferences for professional development and safety issues.
- Complies with all college, system, state and federal rules and regulations.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: High school diploma or high school equivalency.
Experience: Two years' experience in custodial, grounds-keeping, or light maintenance work with equipment operation and maintenance and some supervisory or project coordination experience. Each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.
License/Certification: Possession of a valid New Hampshire driver’s license.
Special Requirements: Must be willing to work a flexible work schedule and/or change hours during any special or emergency event, to support college activities that exceed normal operating hours and to adjust work schedule to meet college requirements. Based upon emergency event, this position may be designated as Essential Personnel and is subject to all of its provisions.
RECOMMENDED WORK TRAITS: Thorough knowledge of the methods and practices of cleaning services in a large building complex. Considerable knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions. Ability to effectively supervise subordinates. Ability to maintain and establish schedules. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates. Must be willing to maintain appearance appropriate to assigned duties and responsibilities as determined by the college’s appointing authority.
