PRISON EDUCATION PROGRAM ASSISTANT
FULL-TIME, $20.35-$23.41/HOUR


SCOPE OF WORK: Provides administrative support to the Prison Education Program, working with students incarcerated within the New Hampshire Department of Corrections (NH DOC). This position reports directly to the President at White Mountains Community College (WMCC).

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Serves as a liaison between Prison Education Program (PEP) students and the college.
  • Assists PEP students in becoming WMCC students, guiding them through the admissions process. Works collaboratively with all offices/departments integral to the admissions process.
  • Assists students with all elements of the financial aid process. Facilitates financial aid processing, including verification, obtaining documentation, packaging, and cost of attendance adjustments.
  • Facilitates support services for PEP student success, which includes making referrals for academic/career advising, tutoring, and library resources.
  • Maintains tracking of PEP graduates upon release from the NH DOC.
  • Manages PEP student applications and records. Maintains data and files to assist with PEP reporting requirements.
  • Works with prison officials to plan graduations for PEP students completing a program.
  • Complies with all college, system, state federal, and prison rules and regulations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: High School diploma, G.E.D. or its equivalent. Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience.

Experience: Five years of experience working in student services or other education field. Each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.

License/Certification: Valid driver's license or access to transportation.

RECOMMENDED WORK TRAITS: Knowledge of modern office practices, procedures and equipment. Knowledge of English, spelling and arithmetic. Knowledge of office record keeping and reporting. Knowledge of the regulations pertaining to departmental programs. Ability to gather, assemble, correlate and analyze facts and identify existing or potential problems. Ability to contribute to the development of sound operational procedures. Ability to exercise sound judgment in appraising situations and making routine decisions. Ability to follow specific instructions in gathering facts, data, or resources in organizing required information. Ability to make decisions within the parameters of the rules and policies of the college. Ability to programs sponsored by the department or college. Ability to present ideas clearly and effectively. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Must be willing to maintain an appearance appropriate to assigned duties and responsibilities as determined by management.
