SCOPE OF WORK: Professional academic advising role. Advises current and prospective students regarding academic, career, transfer, and transition options and opportunities. This position reports to the Accessibility Services Coordinator at River Valley Community College and will have responsibility throughout RVCC’s catchment area.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Advises all Allied Health students at River Valley Community College, assisting with registration, long-term planning, making connections with other program directors, the Admissions Department, Student Services, transfer and career opportunities, and college life.
  • Monitors student academic progress and actively communicates and advises based on student status through multiple modalities.
  • Maintains accurate and confidential records of advising sessions in alignment with college policies.
  • Works collaboratively with program directors, program advisors and faculty to ensure appropriate course and program selection and pre-requisite needs are met.
  • Participates in College recruitment and student orientation activities.
  • Prepares, maintains, and distributes information regarding career planning, job placement, and college transfer.
  • Prepares and offers workshops within the department. Coordinates systematic qualitative and quantitative data collection and evaluation of all areas of responsibility.
  • Serves on College and System teams as needs are determined by the Department and the College.
  • Complies with all college, system, state and federal rules and regulations.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Bachelor’s degree from a recognized college or university with major study in education, behavioral science, health science, nursing, allied health or a related field. Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience.

Experience: Two (2) years’ experience in academic and/or career advising.

License/Certifications: Valid Driver’s License or access to statewide transportation.

Ability to work with diverse populations and to maintain effective rapport with students, faculty, and staff. Ability to communicate effectively and to prepare written reports. Ability to exercise professional judgment and to maintain confidentiality. Ability to work independently and as a member of a team. Must be willing to maintain an appearance appropriate to assigned duties and responsibilities as determined by the college.
